There’s no doubt the future is changing. A tour through any modern manufacturing plant reveals any number of state-of-the-art technologies. One such leader is Festo, a global leader in industrial automation. The company is headquartered in Germany. Manuel Schmidt, a technology expert at Festo, said the company uses ScreenPal’s video features to boost its intelligence when communicating with and training people around the world.
Video Simplifies Festo’s Presentations
Festo first began using ScreenPal in its presentations used worldwide. This video software has allowed the company to streamline and simplify the creation of presentations.
“Before we were using ScreenPal, people were using different types of software. This was quite a pain because we had a lot of hardware as well,” said Manuel Schmidt, the company’s technology consultant.
Now Festo uses one tool — ScreenPal — to record the person doing the presentation on his or her screen using a webcam and wireless microphone to capture the words.
Another area where Festo has benefited from using ScreenPal is in PowerPoint presentations. ScreenPal provides high-quality video software and adds functionality that takes Festo’s PowerPoint presentations to a different level.
“We have screencasts from PowerPoint presentations where the original presentation is being put to life,” said Schmidt.
Because Festo provides services around the world, it has also found that ScreenPal works exceptionally well for recording live conferences, providing digital records of work meetings, and making more intimate videos directly from a user’s desktop computer.
Training Employees Around The World
Beyond the presentations needed by these companies comes the need for regular manufacturing maintenance and upkeep. Sending technicians to training would be nice but is hardly an option because that requires time and money.
So, like many companies these days, Festo has turned to video because it can show people how to perform tasks rather than force them to sift through a long, boring manual. Schmidt says the videos are an effective communication tool. It can help train workers in the United States as they stay connected with those in Germany, something he says happens from time to time.
Because of their advanced approach to video, Festo won a national prize in 2011. Its user-generated content and video approach are seldom used in its industry. “That made us very happy,” Schmidt recalled.
Easy Video Integration Into Festo’s Workflow
Festo was also impressed with the integrative tools that ScreenPal offers for internal work. The software’s simple features opened up new avenues for Festo. By using the ScreenPal API, Festo has integrated the software directly into its own workflow making it easier for the user and allowing Festo more control and security over its content.
The main reason Festo chose ScreenPal is because of its easy platform and the ability to implement the tool globally.
“Everybody at Festo can use it without any admin rights, so we offer the tool as a job applet within our own management system. It can easily open up from your learning management system. So no admin rights were required for the people to use it, and that made it very easy,” said Schmidt.
ScreenPal’s API ability to integrate the company’s management system has turned Festo into a video content creation machine.
The videos are fed through their internal management system so they are all stored within the platform. Employees find the content and recordings all in one place. This consolidation and simplification process encourages employees to produce more videos. In fact, Schmidt estimates that they have created more than a thousand videos.
The video platform can be used in a number of ways. From editing online tutorials that teach users how to make repairs and perform routine maintenance to recording work tasks that are done within the digital realm.
In a world where advanced technology makes everything faster and cheaper, it makes sense for companies to implement video tools that allow them to also quickly keep the human touch in certain business areas. ScreenPal has become that tool for Festo.
“People can easily understand it. It’s easy to implement, and we made it with a tool to have a really enclosed ecosystem. So it’s really built in and linked in, in every way,” says Schmidt.
