I discovered ScreenPal shortly after my remote work journey began a few years ago as a Software Developer Specialist in the Higher Education industry. I’d pursued this role due to my passion for coding and web development. Now, in my role as a Web Administrator, I specialize in the meticulous maintenance of e-commerce websites within the Retail Industry.
I developed new processes for myself when I started working remotely, and ScreenPal is a tool I use to assist in improving my remote workflow and communication. Creating media like GIFs and short videos was among a couple of things I started doing more of as a remote worker. For a while, I used a program that was only compatible with Windows, which was great for the work computer I had at the time.
Gradually, I found personal use cases for creating this type of media, so I needed software that would also work with my personal Mac, which is how I found ScreenPal. I experimented with multiple programs but ultimately chose ScreenPal because of the quality of GIFs it produced, along with other useful features like video editing tools. So, ScreenPal is my go-to screen recording tool for both professional and personal use, which I’ll discuss more in this post.
Demos
In my current role as a Web Administrator, where a large majority of my work tasks include making configuration updates to websites, creating quick demos is one instance where having ScreenPal’s desktop tool is convenient.
For example, after making updates and changes live on a website, I may capture a short screen recording to showcase the changes to a colleague — especially when there are multiple updates. It can also help them more readily see if they need to provide any feedback on the changes.
There are also times when a website may be experiencing an issue, and capturing cases like this when collaborating on a resolution is helpful to my team as a whole.
In either scenario, this process helps those I’m working with to see a quick demonstration along with my message, whether communication is inside a ticket or a chat/email message. In ScreenPal, screen recordings can be easily converted into a GIF or video — which is one of my favorite parts about the software.
Technical Documentation
In my past role as a Software Development Specialist, I was tasked with a project to build up our department’s knowledge base that would help to standardize processes across teams and provide step-by-step tutorials.
In this role, I would also answer internal emails about how to perform certain functions within the CMS platform, which I would later convert into documentation.
During this key moment in my career, I really started to increase GIF creation to enhance my workflow, using GIFs to explain technical processes and concepts.
My documentation project primarily functioned as an internal training guide but also quickly became a valuable resource for users who were not as technical.
I directly saw the impact of my documentation and communication efforts, including GIFs and video media in emails, because this work received positive feedback from colleagues and customers alike.
Personal use
I enjoy creating technical content, including both blog posts for my website and videos for my YouTube channel, which led me to using ScreenPal for my own personal use.
Blog posts
On my personal tech blog, I discussed adding captions to videos using HTML, a recent discovery. In this blog post, I used ScreenPal’s GIF tool to showcase before-and-after examples, demonstrating the implementation and functionality of this concept.
Video content
I’ve also used ScreenPal’s GIF tool in some of my YouTube shorts.
I created a short explaining a CSS concept but felt it needed a livelier demo than a screenshot.
I used ScreenPal to create a GIF for this and then inserted the media into an existing graphic — needless to say, I liked how it turned out!
ScreenPal played a vital role in the creation process for much of my technical content for the past year – and will continue to be a necessary product for my personal workflow and communication.
My video about ScreenPal
I share many of my favorite tools via my YouTube channel, and ScreenPal is one of the ones I recently highlighted.
In the ScreenPal tutorial video, I provide more detail by giving an overview and demonstrate one of my main uses for ScreenPal mentioned earlier in this post — GIF and video creation.
Conclusion
Although my day-to-day uses for ScreenPal are pretty simple, it’s a tool that offers a plethora of editing features and sharing capabilities.
I can easily add in elements such as annotations, voice recording, music, and visual effects – reducing the need for additional tools to accomplish necessary edits.
Whether it’s improving my communication process at work or creating technical content, ScreenPal provides a range of both basic and advanced features necessary for my screen recording and editing use cases.
